Make your game world come alive with immersive, surface-based footstep sounds in Unreal Engine 5! In this beginner-friendly tutorial, I’ll walk you through building a fully dynamic footstep sound system that plays different sounds depending on the surface your character is walking on—like dirt, gravel, tile, and more. We'll cover importing sound effects, setting up Sound Cues with random pitch variation, assigning physical materials to surfaces, creating a custom trace channel, and triggering sounds via animation notifies—all using Blueprints. Whether you're working on a survival game, horror project, or just want a more immersive experience, this system is modular, expandable, and 100% Blueprint-based. 🛠️ Tools Used: Unreal Engine 5.5 Starter Third Person Template Free sounds + assets from FAB and Quixel Custom Blueprint Interface + AnimNotify 📌 Timestamps 00:24 Project Setup 00:52 Sound Files 02:12 Sound Cue Setup 02:52 Sound Cue Logic 05:14 Material Overview 05:42 Physical Material Setup 08:12 Project Settings for Trace Channel and Surface Types 11:10 Physical Material Type Setting 11:53 Blueprint Interface Setup 12:24 Custom AnimNotify Blueprint Setup 13:55 Character and Trace Setup 21:08 AnimNotify Setup in Animations 22:51 AnimNotify alignment Tip 24:52 Note about collision Types 25:40 The fix! 29:08 Ideas for expanding the system 30:23 SoloDevAccelerator.com – Newsletter and free 3-page indie dev starter PDF 30:53 Game Announcement – Part of Him Remains 31:03 Patreon – Behind-the-scenes, devlogs, and monthly drops 🧠 Ready to Build Your Dream Game as a Solo Dev? I’ve officially left my 9–5 job to go full-time indie — and this is Devlog #0 of my new horror game built in Unreal Engine 5. In this first video, I dive into Sequencer, Control Rig, and try to build a cinematic cutscene… emphasis on “try.” There were crashes. There were flip-flops. There were lessons learned. 🧰 Tools: Unreal Engine 5.5, Metahumans, Control Rig, and caffeine 🔗 Part of Him Remains - Wishlist on Steam 👉 https://store.steampowered.com/app/3626960/Part_of_Him_Remains/ 🔻 Free Game Dev Starter Kit (3-Day Plan) 👉 https://SoloDevAccelerator.com 🎮 Follow the Game + Get Devlog Commentary 👉 https://www.patreon.com/c/BoatinaBottleStudios 🔗 All My Links / Projects 👉 https://linktr.ee/BoatinaBottleStudios 🎮 Part of Him Remains Website 👉 https://partofhimremains.com/ #devlog #solodev #ue5 #unrealengine #horrorgame #indiegamedev #gamecutscene #gamedevelopment #cinematiccutscene #partofhimremains #beginnergamedev #indiegame #howtomakeagame
